Why Do We Keep Birthday Cards?

birthday-greeting-card-organizer-organiser

Birthday cards are often kept over the years, I remember clearing out the loft a while back, and came across an old biscuit tin with birthday cards from my 16th, 18th and 21st birthday parties, it really brought a smile to my face looking at all of the teenager’s handwriting from people I have not seen in over two decades….

… There was the letter ‘i’ with circles and hearts instead of dots, most of the girls put at least 3 kisses after their names (to get a kiss from a boy is unusual), large flowery handwriting filled every corner of these birthday cards, and I loved revisiting my memories that day.

Birthday cards have certainly evolved over the past twenty years, you can now buy a birthday card from your laptop, and have it printed and posted without you leaving the sofa. With the continual advance of technology, internet, social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook, emails are more popular than a handwritten letter to keep in touch, and e-cards have seen a rise in popularity as well.

As I mentioned, these birthday cards held memories from my teens and when I was still young, just recently – and I mean only the past 3-4 months – I have caught up with many of my school friends, through chatting and networking on Facebook. Some people have changed beyond recognition, and other haven’t changed a bit.

Photos from school started to appear on my friends’ accounts, and how loud did I laugh? It was funny and odd at the same time, to see your friends from school, yourself with that bad Eighties perm, the boys with the mullets and the football perms – not to mention the fashion and clothes we all wore!

As each year passes now, the birthday cards that I receive are fewer in number, but I still keep them all in a new tin. Another difference, is the increase in personalised birthday cards, cards where you can upload a photo, change the colour of the text as you type on the inside of the cards, on websit

in particular seems to have cornered the market with a genius Facebook application.

Log onto www.funkypigeon.com and click on the photo upload menu, then click the Facebook button and sign in. Look at all your friends and all of their photo albums! Be sure to ask permission if you did want to use someone else’s photograph, in the end I went into my own album and chose an image of the whole class of 1988. I uploaded the image to be the entire front design of the card, but there are templates for birthday cards and other occasions.

These birthday cards are printed to order on really high quality thick card that’s digitally printed then protected with UV varnish to last longer than a high street card. You can even choose the size of the card, from small A6, regular A5 or a giant size A4 with a frame for that extra special occasion.

The card is sent direct to the recipient the same working day so the delivery is really quick, normally next day as they are sent by First Class Royal Mail.

So, the next time you send a birthday card, personalise a birthday card online with the Funky Pigeon and send a birthday card that’s a real keepsake.
